Although the MCWA does apply to inland areas, all georegulations were clipped to the study area which encompasses the coastal areas of Massachusetts. Attributes for this spatial data file include not only the the statutory and regulatory references for this law, but also the name and contact information of the state agency that maintains regulatory jurisdiction. The ability to visualize regulations, laws, or management structures can help policy makers understand use conflicts, point out inconsistencies in national or state policy, and educate the public about ocean issues. In addition, georegulations allow the user to view the spatial extent of these laws concurrently with the natural resources they seek to protect. LOGICAL CONSISTENCY REPORT: Data are believed to be logically consistent, although not tested. Geometry appears to be topologically clean. COMPLETENESS REPORT: This is a statewide data layer and is believed to depict the area to which the Massachusetts Clean Waters Act may be applied within the study area defined for this project. The data layer was clipped to the study area and is meant to support coastal initiatives. As such, it does not display all state lands. HORIZONTAL POSITIONAL ACCURACY REPORT: The accuracy of these data is based on source data that are assumed to meet National Map Accuracy Standards. PROCESS DESCRIPTION: This data layer was created using both the MA "outline", as provided by MassGIS, and the MMS state seward boundary. The MA outline data layer was used to depict the llteral boundaries with New Hampshire and Rhode Island, however, it has been clipped to the georegs study area and does not extend to the landward Massachusetts boundary.
